Pink Sky

When you didn’t claim me
and tossed me on the wind
I let the rain un-name me
and sting my callow skin

But now the storm is closing
And I hear you walking in
In that old sheep’s clothing
Just like you wore back then

Maybe you’re my pink sky, Renee
promising and benevolent
Calming a wild unsettled plain
Cautious and cold and reticent
But when the rain blacks the clouds
and the thunder shakes the ground
Will you still be so kind Renee?

When you switched that light on
I was born anew
I wrote our story on my heartstrings
And pinned its promises to you

But soon I heard the intimations
And hints in the way you moved
So I wrote you pages of airtight explanations
But left out everything I knew
